The Los Angeles Chargers are my favorite AFC sleeper team and a legitimate Super Bowl dark-horse. Justin Herbert is already a MVP-caliber quarterback. Austin Ekeler is perennially underrated at running back. Keenan Allen is the best route runner in the league. Mike Williams is one of my top sleepers in fantasy. First round-pick Rashawn Slater, first-team All-Pro Corey Linsley, and free-agent guard Matt Feller should help fortify a shaky offensive line. The firing of head coach Anthony Lynn is addition by subtraction. He was analytically one of the worst coaches in the league, always botching late-game situations. The Bolts have been one of the NFL's most underperforming and unclutch teams in recent years. They have consistently ranked near the top of the league in one-score losses. With a coaching change, the Chargers should win more toss-up games. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and head coach Brandon Staley should take this team to new heights. Lombardi is a Sean Payton disciple and should optimize the play-calling. The offensive system under Anthony Lynn was way too conservative and run-reliant. Star edge rusher Joey Bosa and safety Derwin James should find success playing under defensive-minded head coach Brandon Staley. Last year, Staley called plays for a Rams team that finished top four in defensive passing and rushing DVOA, according to Sharp Football Analysis. If the Chargers can get to their Week 7 bye without collapsing, it should be smooth sailing for the rest of the year. The coaching is much improved, the schedule is a cakewalk for the second half of the season, and the star power is there. A few sharp bettors in Vegas are high on the Chargers this year, and so am I.
