Bakin' 5: Bookiemonster's Picks for NFL Week 8

Updated: Dec 3, 2022

Bakin' 5 is my take on Colin Cowherd's Blazin' 5. Every Friday, Cowherd announces his Blazin' 5 picks on his FS1 show, The Herd. The sports media personality selects his five favorite NFL bets of the week. On Bakin' 5, I'll post our selections.

Let's bake it up.

Colin Cowherd likes the Bills -14, the Colts -2.5, the Patriots +4.5, the Jaguars +3.5, and the Saints +4.5. I like the Panthers +3, the Colts +1.5, the Saints +6, and the Cowboys -1.5, and the Giants +11.

Here's why.

On Carolina (+3) vs Atlanta:

Off four straight losses, now is the time to buy low on Carolina. The Falcons are woefully thin in the secondary, and Carolina is strong at wide receiver. Expect a stellar outing from DJ Moore. With the Falcons on a win streak and the Panthers slumping, give me Carolina +3 in a bounce back performance.

On Tennessee vs Indianapolis (+1.5):

This line is now Indianapolis -3, so we got terrific line movement at Indianapolis +1.5 earlier in the week. Tennessee is coming off two huge home wins against Buffalo and Kansas City. Now, we should fade them. Indianapolis should be able to run the football effectively. Look for Indianapolis to avenge their Week 3 loss to Tennessee and return to contention for the AFC South crown. This a must win game for the Colts.

On Tampa Bay vs New Orleans (+6):

The Saints are one of the few teams that match up well with the Bucs. Brady mostly struggled in his games against New Orleans last year, posting a 1-2 record. Jameis and the Saints have thrived in the underdog role this season. Off a poor offensive showing on Monday Night Football, the Saints come out firing and cover the spread.

On Dallas (-1.5) vs Minnesota:

This line is Cowboys +2.5, due to the uncertainty surrounding Dak Prescott. Since I posted Dallas -1.5 earlier in the week, I'll stick with it. Dallas is a perfect 6-0 against the spread. They're a legitimate Super Bowl contender. At such a low number, give me Dak and the Boys to defeat Kirk Cousins, who struggles quite a bit in primetime games.

On New York (+11) vs Kansas City:

This is too many points. Kansas City shouldn’t be laying double digits to anyone outside Houston. The Giants offensive line is subpar, but the pass rush of Kansas City is too weak to exploit it. The Chiefs win, but the Giants keep it close.

Season Scoreboard:

Cowherd's Blazin' 5: 14-22 (39%)

Bookiemonster's Bakin' 5: 18-12 (60%)
