I jumped on Raiders u7 wins as well as u7.5 wins at -140 for a number of reasons. First, Las Vegas plays arguably the hardest schedule in the league this season. According to William Hill's 2021 preseason win totals, the Raiders possess the second most difficult schedule in the NFL. When assessing win totals, the quality of a team's opponents is almost as important as the quality of the team itself. In division, Las Vegas meets Los Angeles, Denver, and Kansas City twice. That's two games versus 2020 Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert, two games against arguably the NFL's best defense (Broncos), and two games against arguably the NFL's best offense (Chiefs). Las Vegas would be lucky to get to three wins in the AFC West. They also meet the AFC North this year, so that makes matters worse. The most alarming part about the 2021 Raiders is the structure of the team itself. Gruden is an average coach, and Derek Carr is an average quarterback. They are nothing spectacular. However, the once strong offensive line has been gutted in the offseason, and the Raiders secondary has been the worst in the league over the past three seasons. During Gruden's tenure, PFF has graded the Raiders as the worst coverage team in the NFL. So, the NFL's worst secondary - in an increasingly pass-happy league - is supposed to be bailed out by the immobile Derek Carr playing behind a subpar offensive line? In a league where offense reigns supreme, having major question marks in the secondary and on the offensive line are problematic to say the least. An MVP-caliber quarterback is not trotting out on the field for the black-and-silver, either. I think this win total is at least a game too high. Don't be surprised if the Raiders implode down the stretch and finish with 4-5 wins.
