Bakin' 5: Bookiemonster's Picks for NFL Week 5

Updated: Dec 3, 2022

Bakin' 5 is my take on Colin Cowherd's Blazin' 5. Every Friday, Cowherd announces his Blazin' 5 picks on his FS1 show, The Herd. The sports media personality selects his 5 favorite NFL bets of the week. On Bakin' 5, I'll post our selections.

Let's bake it up.

Colin Cowherd likes the Panthers -3, Bengals +3, Dolphins +10, Browns +2.5, and Bills +3. I like the Panthers -3, Niners +5.5, Bills +3, and Colts +7. We both picked the Rams -2.5 on Thursday Night Football.

Here's why.

On Los Angeles (-2.5) vs Seattle:

Like it? I love it. Forget about the Rams loss last week. It was a classic letdown spot after the Bucs game. The Rams are terrific after a loss with McVay. Russ has struggled against the Rams defense as of late. Give me the more consistent offense and the better defense in Los Angeles. Stafford and Kupp light up the Seattle secondary. Rams cover the 2.5 point spread on Thursday Night Football.

UPDATE: Rams won 26-17 and covered the 2.5 point spread.

On Philadelphia vs Carolina (-3):

We're getting the best of the number here. This opened at 3.5 or 4. I like Carolina at a field goal. Philly's defense has been getting torched as of late, and the offensive line is missing a lot of starters. I think Carolina is better on defense than what they showed against Dallas last week. Carolina covers the 3 at home.

On San Francisco (+5.5) vs Arizona:

Let's pump the brakes on the Cardinals hype. Do we really trust Kingsbury to be this big a favorite against Shanahan? In the offseason, this was a pick em, and the spread was Arizona -2.5 before Week 4. This is recency bias at its best. Take the Niners to cover. This is too many points in a divisional game.

On Buffalo (+3) vs Kansas City:

Bills are the better team. Kansas City's defense can't stop anybody. Allen and the Bills finally break through against Mahomes and the Chiefs. I'd only bet this at 3 or better. Bills establish themselves as the team to beat in the AFC. Josh Allen becomes the MVP frontrunner.

On Indianapolis (+7) vs Baltimore:

7 is too many points here. Colts have a solid foundation. Reich is a good coach, and the Colts looked great in all three phases last week. This is not a team that gets blown out when they lose. They've covered in six of their last eight games on the road. Give me the Colts with the points in a close game on Monday Night Football. Indy is better than 1-3 indicates.

Season Scoreboard:

Cowherd's Blazin' 5: 8-12 (40%)

Bookiemonster's Bakin' 5: 9-6 (60%)
