Bakin' 5: Bookiemonster's Picks for NFL Week 2

Updated: Dec 3, 2022

Bakin' 5 is my version of Colin Cowherd's Blazin' 5. Every Friday, Cowherd announces his Blazin' 5 picks on his FS1 show, The Herd. The sports media personality selects his 5 favorite NFL bets of the week. On Bakin' 5, I'll post my 5 favorite bets against-the-spread.

Let's bake it up.

Cowherd likes the Panthers +3.5, the Colts +3.5, the Eagles +3, the Steelers -6.5, and the Chargers -3.5. I like the Panthers +3.5, the Broncos -6, the Patriots -5.5, the Steelers -6.5, and the Chiefs -3.5.

Here's why.

On New Orleans vs Carolina:

I love this spot for Carolina. New Orleans destroyed Green Bay last week, and the Panthers struggled to put away the lowly Jets. I think the Carolina defense is underrated and will bring the Saints offense back down to Earth. In a game with a total of just 44.5 points, I'll take the underdog with the points. Carolina is a live home dog.

On Denver vs Jacksonville:

Like it? I love it. The Jags looked horrible in Week 1. If Trevor Lawrence struggled with the Houston secondary, imagine what Denver will do to him. Teddy Bridgewater is an incredible 22-3 ATS in last 25 games on the road. Broncos get the job done on Sunday and easily cover the 6.

On New England vs New York (AFC):

Bill Belichick terrorizes rookie quarterbacks. The New England defense will dominate Zach Wilson and the Jets on Sunday. The Pats run wild and cover the 5.5 point spread. New England wins 24-14.

On Las Vegas vs Pittsburgh:

Classic letdown spot for the Raiders. Off an emotional OT victory on MNF. Traveling across the country on a short week to play an early kickoff game. West coast teams historically struggle playing in the early time slot on the east coast. Derek Carr gets eaten alive by Pittsburgh's front 7. Pittsburgh covers the 6.5 point spread.

On Kansas City vs Baltimore:

September Mahomes is superhuman. He's never thrown an interception in the month of September. Baltimore is on a short week and coming off a disappointing OT loss to the Raiders. I think Kansas City will light up the weak Baltimore secondary. I'll swallow the 3.5 points.

Cowherd's Blazin' 5 record: 2-3 (40%)

Bookiemonster's Bakin' 5 record: 0-0
